Earlier this week, we wrote a post on how hunting businesses should be using Google Alerts. In addition to using Google Alerts, hunting businesses should also be using a product called Social Mention. Social Mention tracks the real-time web for mentions of your brand (ie Twitter, Facebook statuses, FriendFeed, Digg, etc). Visit their homepage and conduct a search on your brand and you might be surprised by what you see.

Social Mention also provides alerts in the same manner Google Alerts works. Social Mention Alerts are email updates of the latest relevant social media results (blog, microblog, etc.) based on your choice of search phrase. Social Mention should be another tool your marketing toolbox.

Hunters Connect series connects hunters with hunting businesses and hunting websites . If you would like to have your business/website considered for inclusion, see details here.

Website Name: Becky Lou Outdoors

Website URL: http://www.beckylououtdoors.com

Interview With: Becky Lou Lacock

Quick Overview: As a “Late Outdoor Bloomer” I was encouraged to begin writing about my adventures as to possibly inspire women to give the outdoors a chance. I have a tendency to be very enthusiastic about things, and my excitement seems to spill over onto those around me. I really believe that I can make a difference in someone’s life, and possibly provide some inspiration to take a chance on something, like shooting a gun, or Hunting! I believe that it has improved the quality of my life as a whole, and I am certain that it will do the same for anyone!

What is your favorite feature on your website? Blogging! I love people, and talking to people, so my ability to share my Brain Bursts with lots of people is a Thrill!!

Do you hunt? Yes

If so, what is your favorite type of game to hunt? I have just recently begun hunting Turkey, and I am very excited about it! Until Turkey, I enjoyed hunting Whitetail and other deer, but definitely have a lot of animals I hope to hunt!

How have your marketed your site? I am just beginning to market my site, and I am in the process of upgrading to a smoother faster interaction with a new Webmaster. With the anticipation of increased website traffic after “Ammo & Attitude” begins to air, I am hoping to reach out to everyone, especially women like me (or like I was previously) that are hesitant to delve into some Outdoor Adventures!

Are you involved with Social Media (ie Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc)? Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/BeckyLou-Outdoors/170932218434YouTube: BeckyLouSiana <<<<please note the trick on the spelling of Louisiana: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NydVR7xDutw

Any Bold Predictions for Hunting and Technology in the future? Women in the Outdoors!! I believe that it has been rising for several years, but still just a drop in the bucket when you think of the potential!! Children in the outdoors has been on the decline, and needs to be addressed, I believe that women will prove to be very effective in encouraging the little ones to take it Outdoors!

Extra: I have just recently finished filming an Outdoor Reality Series, Ammo & Attitude, with 6 women, interesting outdoor competition, to begin August 1, 2010 on Versus Channel. It was extremely exciting, and I think it will portray women in a very positive, but “Competitive” manner!”

If you’re looking to launch your own hunting magazine but don’t have the funds for production and delivery, you should check out DMT (Digital Magazine Technology). One hunting magazine that uses this technology is IS Outdoors. They do a great job with their articles and have tons of advertisers.

Here’s a little more from DMT.

DMT technology was created to give readers the ability to experience an online, easy to read, interactive version of today’s top publications. Readers can flip pages, follow links, review featured content, visit advertiser’s websites or even listen to audio or play video clips.

Publications online can reach readers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from all over the world, which can turn an online publication into a powerful revenue stream. Featured contents, links to products or advertisers’ sites, audio, video clips and special bookmaking can all be sold to an existing customer base as enhancements to a standard print publication. It’s never been easier to reach the millions of people who use the Internet daily for information, resources, news, and so much more!
