Interview With: Chip Hunnicutt
Quick Overview (250 words or less): Anchorpoint is a hunt club management system that includes everything from a group calendar and reservation system, member management, private club forums and classifieds. Clubs can recruit new members through our Club Directory.
Please provide us with a detailed overview of your site/blog? Anchorpoint came about when I joined a hunt club three hours from my house. I never knew what was going on and our “message system” was a mailbox nailed to a pecan tree. When I set out to develop Trophy Score for the iPhone, I built Anchorpoint alongside it to provide the complete package for today’s hunt club managers.
What is your favorite feature on your website? The Trophy Book of animals uploaded with Trophy Score is fantastic and will only get better as more hunters score and sync their trophies with the app. Member services of the Club Manager are great because they allow Club Managers to post messages, events and reminders to everyone or just one member, and members can see a full roster of everyone in the club. Along with the private club forum, there’s a global forum so folks from different clubs can get along.
Do you hunt? If so, what is your favorite type of game to hunt? Deer is my game of choice and have been spoiled with the long seasons in the Carolinas. I recently moved to upstate New York where the season is much shorter and favors the bow hunter. I do travel out West for whitetail, mule deer and have taken a bison and been on three unguided elk hunts. I went on my first pheasant hunt last year and hope to do it again this year. I’ve hunted ducks just once but that’s due to a lack of opportunity, not desire.
How have your marketed your site? A couple hunting tradeshows but the tech was over the heads of most folks attending. The Club Manager has taken a backseat to Trophy Score and in hindsight, should have built them out as separate websites. My blog at http://DoubletoughOutdoors.com has blown up in recent months so I’ve been able to use that as an advertising vehicle. Hunting forums, AdSense and some ad swaps have rounded out the efforts.
What type(s) of technology do you use? The site is built with Ruby, hosted with Amazon and developed by Digital Toniq (http://digitaltoniq.com). All the graphics were done by Swell Beings (http://swellbeings.com). Personally, my setup is a 24” iMac w/ a 23” Apple Monitor, iPhone 3GS (soon to be replaced by an iPhone 4). My 15” Apple Powerbook has been totally replaced by an iPad.
Are you involved with Social Media (ie Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc)? If so, please share your links. You bet! Google my name and you’ll see I own the first couple pages.
