Seems as though the topic “Deer Hunting Competition” has popped up again.  Remember the failed attempt a few years ago with the World Hunting Association?  Now, Greg Koch and his family will set out to find the 40 best hunters to participate in a deer hunting challenge.  Here is the info:

Finding the top 40: Hunters will submit an application (also available online) and an optional short video. A panel will choose the best among them by July 31.

Tournaments: Inaugural tournaments will have no entry fee. Five-day contest sets times that contestants must enter and exit the field. Two days will be for scouting, three for hunting. Firearms will be provided.

The “kills:” Hi-tech rifle scopes will take a photograph of the deer as the trigger is pulled and a blank round is fired. Scoring will be based on size, maturity, shot placement and a variety of other factors.

World Championship 2010: Scheduled for Oct. 27 near Antlers, Okla.

The future: The AWA seeks to create a website for members who will be able to watch and learn from the best of the best. Television programs that feature AWA champions sharing their skills are planned. Possible some day is creation of local clubs, state and regional championships.
