Monitor Your Company’s Brand

Tuesday, October 13, 2009 9:07

Monitoring your company’s brand on the web today is essential.  Website owners need to be fully aware of all conversations about their brand.  In addition to traditional monitoring on the web, website owners must also monitor the “real-time” web (social network chatter).  To monitor your brand on the web, Google provides the best tool call Google Alerts.  Creating an Alert is simple if you already have a Google account:

  1. Logon to Google.com/alerts
  2. Enter your Search Terms.  This is where you want to add your company name.  It is also a good idea to enter a new alert for your domain name, and any other variations of your company name (ie Widgets, Widgets Corporation, Widgets Inc)
  3. Edit the frequency on which your alerts are distributed.
  4. Select the method for which the notifications are delivered.  We recommend you select email if you are not on Google Reader.

Monitoring your brand on Twitter is also very easy.  If you have a Twitter account, be sure to create a Saved Search.  A saved search will appear in your right hand navigation.  Again, enter different variations of your company’s name.  Because hash tags are popular on Twitter, be sure to include the hash tag in your saved search (ie #Widgets).  Also be sure to track all mentions on Twitter (ie @Widgets).  Respond to as many mentions as possible and stay active in the Twitter conversations.

These two quick and easy applications will help you with your hunting/fishing brand on the web today.
