Flaws In the PA Hunting License Technology

Wednesday, July 8, 2009 20:58

As most hunters in PA have found out by now, all hunting licenses are purchased through a new online program at various sporting good stores throughout the state.  The process is suppose to be quicker, more efficient, and safer (you don’t have to tell your SSN number anymore).  Today it was anything but that.  My father, brother, and I made the annual trip to Dick’s Sporting Goods to purchase our 2009/2010 hunting license when the nightmare began.

My father went first with his driver’s license.  After 3 attempts, the store rep told my dad the system was showing his name in duplicate.  For some reason, the system had his name, SSN, address, and phone number in there twice.  They responded by saying the only was to resolve the issue was for Dick’s to submit through the PA Game Commission via the telephone.  The rep stated they see 2-3 cases like this a day.  This does not sound too high tech to me.  In any case, I was able to purchase my license and pumped for the upcoming season.
